Asian Steamed Bao

Steamed buns (Bao) are a popular street food in many countries in East and Southeast Asia including China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. They are easy to eat and provide complete nutrients in one bite. In this online interactive class, we’ll make the following:

  • Start with making the dough from scratch
  • Then, we’ll prepare cha shu pork belly fillings and vegetable fillings.
  • We’ll turn our dough and make 4 styles of steamed buns: plain buns, scallion rolls (hanamaki), gua bao served with cha shu pork and pickled vegetables, and veggie baozi.
  • We’ll use a steamer to steam all bao. You can use a regular steamer or a bamboo steamer.

While the bao is steaming, we’ll talk about how to store bao and how to serve them. There are options to use chicken or substitutes for vegetarian or vegan. No prep work is required before class.

Class schedule: Saturday, January 29 from 11am-1:30pm Eastern Time Zone. Please check the time on the Eventbrite as the Eventbrite time shows your actual local time zone. This class will be online via Zoom. The class will not be recorded. The price is per screen.

You will receive the ingredient list 14 days before the class starts. We will send out the complete recipe packet along with the Zoom link 7 days before the class starts. No refunds will be given after the complete recipe packet is sent out.
