Have you visited a Chinatown in your area and walked pass a Chinese pastry store that has such as nice buttery smell? In this online interactive class, we’ll make popular Chinese pastry including egg tarts and pineapple buns (or some people called melon pan).
Egg tarts use shortcrust pastry and are popular for both smooth glossy tops and caramelized tops. Pineapple buns are soft breads with crusty tops made from a cookie dough. Usually pineapple buns have no fillings. Some people called melon pan as the shape could be similar to a pineapple or a melon.
We will follow the following steps in the class.
– We will make the pineapple bun yeasted dough and let it proof.
– While the dough is proofing, we will make egg tart crust and the custard filling. Then, we will bake the egg tarts.
– We will finish up the dough and shape and we will make a cookie crust on top.
