Cooking with Spices
Spices came from many parts of the plant including seeds, roots, barks, or event fruits. Spices are used for flavoring, coloring, and adding fragrance. In this fun interactive class, you will learn about different types of spices and spice blends. We’ll use different spices in different ways of cooking. We’ll be making za’atar pita chips from scratch served with peach salsa. We’ll also make Jeweled Israeli Couscous Salad, Chicken Bhuna with Fragrant Spiced Rice, and Spiced Orange Iced Tea.
Za’atar Pita Chips and Peach Salsa: We will make pita bread from scratch and turn into baked pita chips with homemade Za’atar blend served with quick peach salsa.
Jeweled Israeli Couscous Salad: This sweet and savory pearl-couscous salad with spiced orange dressing will help refreshing the warm day.
Chicken Bhuna with Fragrant Spiced Rice: Bhuna is an Indian sauce with dry roasted spices. We’ll make Bhuna Masala blend and make delicious Bhuna curry with chicken. We’ll cook fragrant rice to serve with chicken Bhuna.
Spiced Orange Iced Tea: We’ll use leftover orange from the salad to make quick spiced orange iced tea to finish up the meal.
These dishes except chicken bhuna are naturally vegan. You can substitute chicken with tofu for vegan or paneer for vegetarian.
You are welcome to pick one or two or all dishes along or just watch and learn.
