Free Cooking Class: Burmese Curry with Noodles

Let’s have fun and learn how to make a curry dish with a delicious drink.

Join Ploy’s Kitchen and explore different cuisines and cultures during the lunch time on a Sunday once a month. This fall, the themes will be around curry. Curry, spiced saucy stew dish, has been widely spread around the world and became many countries’ own special dishes. In each session, we’ll spend about an hour cooking a curry dish with a delicious drink. We’ll have fun cooking and talking about food. The dishes are delicious and easy to cook. You will have options to use any meat or just go vegetarian or vegan.

We’ll start our curry journey with Burmese curry. We’ll make a version of Mandalay Mouti Thoke, chicken yellow curry with noodles. Traditionally, the dish uses rice vermicelli (“bun” style noodles used in Vietnamese cuisines) but you are more than welcome to use any long pasta including spaghetti or linguine. You can substitute chicken with any meat, tofu, or any vegetables. While the curry is cooking, we’ll make Burmese tamarind drink. In about 1 hour, we’ll make the following:

  • Make chicken yellow curry
  • Make tamarind drink
  • Cook hard-boiled or soft-boiled eggs
  • Cook noodles
  • Prepare the toppings

You are welcome to double or triple the recipe to serve enough people in the household.

Class schedule: Sunday, September 19 from 12-1pm Eastern Time Zone. This class will be online via Zoom. The class will not be recorded.
