Free Cooking Class: Malaysian Curry with Jasmine Rice

Let’s have fun and learn how to make a curry dish with a delicious drink.

Join Ploy’s Kitchen and explore different cuisines and cultures during the lunch time on a Sunday once a month. This fall, the themes will be around curry. Curry, spiced saucy stew dish, has been widely spread around the world and became many countries’ own special dishes. In each session, we’ll spend about an hour cooking a curry dish with a delicious drink. We’ll have fun cooking and talking about food. The dishes are delicious and easy to cook. You will have options to use any meat or just go vegetarian or vegan.

This class is part of our FREE COOKING CLASS series that is happening on a Sunday once a month. Check out for other classes.

This week, we’ll travel to Malaysia and learn how to make Malaysian curry. We’ll make Ayam Lemak Cili Api, chicken in yellow coconut curry with Birds Eye chili served with steamed jasmine rice. While this dish uses chicken, you are welcome to substitute chicken with any protein including beef, shrimps, or tofu. The cooking technique to make this dish is completely different from the other types of curry in our cooking series. While the curry is cooking, we’ll make a homestyle version of Teh Tarik, Malaysian milk tea. In about 1 hour, we’ll make the following:

  • Cook steamed jasmine rice
  • Blend a curry paste from scratch
  • Make yellow coconut curry with chicken
  • Make homestyle Teh Tarik, Malaysian milk tea

You are welcome to double or triple the recipe to serve enough people in the household.

Class schedule: Sunday, October 17 from 12-1pm Eastern Time Zone. This class will be online via Zoom. The class will not be recorded.

You will receive the complete recipe packet in the confirmation email after registration. We’ll send a Zoom link to you 5 days before the class starts.
